St.
John's Church-Valle Crucis
Deborah Jacobs Purves art career began at the age of
seven with classes at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Throughout
grade school and high school she continued to indulge her passion
for making art. After a brief stint in college in 1970, she moved
to the U. S. Virgin Islands where she learned to sail, scuba
dive, and windsurf, while working as a freelance illustrator,
graphic designer, sign painter, and clothing artist. Inspired
by the incredible natural beauty of the Caribbean, she began
studying with nationally renowned watercolorist, Charles Hawes
of St. Croix. After a life-altering experience in the form of
Hurricane Hugo, Deborah made the decision to become serious about
her career as a painter and moved to the beautiful North Carolina
Mountains where she pursued a degree in fine art at Appalachian
State University. Graduating in 1995 with Summa cum Laude honors,
Deborah currently has a home and studio overlooking the Watauga
River in Valle Crucis. Her original work in included in many
private and corporate collections including Wachovia Bank, First
Union Bank, CCB Bank, and Appalachian State University. She
is currently represented by the Art Cellar Gallery in Banner
Elk

Giclee is a French word meaning spraying
of ink. A giclee (zhee-CLAY) is an individually produced,
high-resolution, high-fidelity reproduction done on a special
large format printer. Giclees are produced from digital scans
of existing artwork. Also, since many artists now produce only
digital art, there is not an "original" that can be
hung on a wall. Giclees solve that problem, while creating a
whole new vibrant medium for art.
Giclees were originally developed as a proofing system for lithograph
printing presses, but it became apparent that the presses were
having a hard time matching the quality and color of the giclee
proofs. They evolved into the new darlings of the art world.
They are coveted by collectors, and desired by galleries because
they don't have to be produced in huge quantities with a large
layout of capital and storage. Giclees can be printed on any
number of media, from canvas to watercolor paper to transparent
acetates. The colors are brighter, last longer, and are so high-resolution
that they are virtually continuous tone, rather than tiny dots.
The Wildflowers production facility utilizes a state of the art
digital printer that, combined with our wide array of archival
media and highly pigmented, uv-resistant inks, can produce a
combination of 512 chromatic changes, with over 3 million possible
colors.
The resulting giclee reproduction has an endless array of richly
saturated color, no noticeable dot pattern, and every subtle
nuance of the original artwork.
A Wildflowers fine art giclee reproduction carries a light-fastness
rating up to 200 years under museum archival conditions. This
means that in many cases a Wildflowers giclee reproduction is
actually more permanent than the original fine art work, making
the giclee much sought-after by fine art collectors!
